Mark Henrickson Jr. Obituary, MASON COUNTY, Mich. — The Shelby community is mourning the loss of Mark “Hondo” Henrickson Jr., a 43-year-old resident who died Tuesday afternoon following a tragic swimming pool incident in Summit Township, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
Henrickson was identified as the man who was found unresponsive after diving into a residential swimming pool at a home in the 4800 block of West Birch Lane on Tuesday, July 14. Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. when Henrickson entered the pool and did not resurface.
According to investigators, Henrickson’s family members realized something was wrong and immediately entered the water to assist him. With help from firefighters from the Riverton Township Fire Department, they were able to remove him from the pool and begin lifesaving efforts while waiting for additional emergency responders.
Henrickson was transported by ambulance to Corewell Health Ludington Hospital, where medical personnel continued resuscitation efforts. Despite those efforts, he was later pronounced dead. Authorities said the official cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending the results of an ordered autopsy.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Henrickson’s passing. Officials have not indicated any signs of foul play, and the investigation remains focused on determining the events that led to the fatal incident.
